Getting started with hand-knitting yarn
Leopold Steinbach establishes a wholesale business for hand-knitting wool. He delivers to customers within a 50-kilometer radius by motorcycle. From 1939 to 1946, the business is closed due to the war, as Leopold Steinbach is forced into military service.
1946
The restart & the first property
After the war, Leopold Steinbach resumed trading in hand-knitting yarns—with great courage and commitment. The company buys it's first plot of land in Schwertberg. The residential building and a small office with a warehouse were built – the foundation for the future.
1992
The next generation
Peter Steinbach joins the company at the age of 20. Soon, the company will have it's own printing facility to produce packaging and knitting magazines—initially for it's own use, but later also for external customers.
1998
Decision about the future
Demand for hand-knitting wool is declining. The company asks itself: trade or production? A summer product is sought to complement the winter business. In 1999, the first pool is sold—an EASY POOL from INTEX with a filter pump. This makes Steinbach the first supplier in the German-speaking region to sell such pools for the mass market. By 2002, many things had been tried – from saunas and fitness equipment to solariums. Ultimately, the topic remains water: swimming pools, whirlpools, and water care now form the new core business.
2003
Focus on water & end of textile production
Between 2003 and 2007, Steinbach established itself in the field of water treatment for pools. Hand knitting yarns are becoming less and less important – the new business model is gaining ground year after year.  At the same time, an automated pallet warehouse for 2,800 Euro pallets is being built—a milestone in logistics. Textile production will be discontinued in 2004 because it is not economically viable.
2012
High up & back into production
A fully automated high-bay warehouse with 4,800 pallet spaces and a height of 33 meters is being built. "Just-in-time" becomes a central element of logistics strategy. In 2013, Steinbach begins labeling and packaging swimming pool care products in Austria. The foundation for in-house production has been laid.
2015
Own bottling, own consignment: growth with vision
Within just six months, Steinbach develops its own buckets (1 kg, 3 kg, 5 kg) and starts production: injection molding and blow molding made in Austria – a milestone for the industry.Plant 2 will grow from 4,000 to 16,000 m² by 2020, with storage capacity increasing to 60,000 pallet spaces. 98% of €60 million will flow into Austria's economy and strengthen Schwertberg.
2020
The COVID years and the new office building
Sales will rise sharply from 2019 to 2021, followed by a decline in 2022 and 2023. Price increases, uncertainty, and changing consumer behavior are weighing on retail and, from 2024 onwards, on industry as well. By 2022, an energy self-sufficient office building with a flagship store, restaurant, fitness center, and underground parking garage will be built. The energy comes from 8.6 km of deep probes and 1,200 kWh of photovoltaics.
2024
The customer is king
Corona successes attract new providers. Competition is getting tougher, quality is declining. The market is becoming increasingly confusing—orientation and quality are becoming more important. Customers should be able to rely on good products again. Steinbach sees it as its responsibility to offer meaningful, tested products from the wide range available.
2026
Filter water, save COâ‚‚, and next-generation smart pools
Innovative technologies enable water filtration with up to 50% CO₂ reduction—another step toward environmentally friendly pool maintenance. The focus is on more efficient pool cleaning solutions. Steinbach is investing in intelligent pool maintenance concepts that save time and resources. Steinbach is working on the pools of the future—smarter, more sustainable, and more durable. The goal: maximum relaxation with minimum effort.
