Frequently asked questions for Styrofoam pools:

We recommend cross-linking and filling over the entire surface. This will give you a pressure-resistant surface.

The technical shaft should be at least 150 x 150 cm, but we recommend the complete pool width x 150 cm.

Styrofoam pools complete set

Styrofoam is an excellent material for building pools because its components - polystyrene and air - optimally store heat and insulate. Styrofoam has a long life and is waterproof, but becomes brittle with UV radiation. However, since the polystyrene pool is lined with a tear-resistant inner foil, the UV rays cannot attack the polystyrene. A winter-proof and robust 0.8 mm to 1.0 mm thick pool liner ensures durability. Styrofoam is harmless to humans and the environment and is also used in other industries for thermal insulation.

The advantage of an eco-Styrofoam pool complete set is that all the necessary components for the swimming pool and a filter system appropriate to the size are already included. You only have to decide on the preferred dimensions. Styrofoam pools are initially more costly and time-consuming to purchase and because they have to be installed in the ground, but they have a long life and are impressive because of their size.

The rectangular shape makes it possible to swim in your own pool and with the right pool accessories, especially a counter-current system, you can swim specifically against the resistance created by the jets. Swimming is a whole-body workout and a good compensation for the strain on the back caused by long periods of sitting. The complete polystyrene pool sets offered by Steinbach vary in their equipment. The complete sets are available in lengths of 600 cm, 700 cm, 800 cm and 900 cm with widths of 300 cm, 350 cm, 400 cm and 500 cm. The heights vary only minimally at 145 cm or 150 cm.

Installation site, ground installation and assembly

Please allow sufficient preparation time for the installation in the ground and clarify building regulations in advance. When choosing a location for your polystyrene pool, please consider several factors to ensure the safety of people and the environment. The location also determines how much cleaning - chemical as well as mechanical - is necessary to maintain the water quality and thus the cleanliness of the bathing water.

The external dimensions of the eco-Styrofoam pool are calculated using the internal dimensions. Please note that the dimensions given refer to the inside dimensions. You can easily calculate the outside dimension by adding 50 cm to each value. Example: A polystyrene pool with a length of 600 cm and a width of 300 cm on the inside has an outside dimension of 650 cm in length and 350 cm in width. Please note that the water depth always corresponds to pool height minus 10 cm. All complete sets have a height of 145 cm or 150 cm, which means an effective water depth of 135 cm or 140 cm respectively.

Before start of construction

Stake out your pool, taking into account the external dimensions and the technical shaft, in order to be able to estimate the total dimension required and to divide it up in the garden. When determining the excavation pit, ideally plan for an inner dimension plus at least 60 cm all around. Example: For a Styrofoam pool with the dimensions 8.0 m x 4.0 m, the excavation pit should be 9.2 m x 5.2 m. The polystyrene pool must not be installed in the garden. The Styrofoam pool must not be built on backfilled areas and only above the groundwater level to avoid damage to the foil, fleece and insulation. If you install your pool on a slope, it is essential that you secure the slope pressure with a separate retaining wall. Under no circumstances should the polystyrene pool protrude more than 50 cm from the ground, otherwise special structural engineering will be required.

The swimming pool should not be placed directly next to or under trees, bushes, etc., as falling leaves, needles and the like will result in considerable extra mechanical and chemical care for the pool water. If there is the possibility of a wind-protected location, you should choose this for your eco-pool. Wind causes the water in your polystyrene pool to evaporate more quickly, making it necessary to increase the supply of fresh water. The more fresh water in turn changes the pH value, - which must always be in the ideal range of 7.0 and 7.4 - the concentration of disinfectants and other chemical cleaning products for water treatment. The perfect location for your polystyrene pool is sunny, as this allows you to optimally use the power of the sun to heat the bathing water. When locating the filter system, make sure that the filter shaft is not airtight under any circumstances, as this can lead to damage due to the formation of condensation on the filter pump. Ideally, the filter system should not be installed above the water level. When installing the pool liner, always ensure that there are no creases. The installation should not be carried out in direct sunlight, as the thermal expansion will not ensure an optimal fit of the pool liner. The best time to install the swimming pool liner in summer is early in the morning or late in the evening.

Most of the heat from the pool water is lost via the water surface, but the temperature of the floor also plays a decisive role. Laying floor insulation is highly advisable, as the floor cools down considerably in the winter months and only begins to warm up again slowly in the spring. The floor insulation is done with clamping pallet boards, which are easy to assemble. Floor insulation is a suitable tool for getting the swimming season started earlier.

Due to the complexity of the product, please follow the exact instructions in the detailed assembly instructions.

Equipment

Please note that the complete sets Eco, Basic and Highlight do not include floor insulation at a depth of 150 cm.

The complete sets Classic and Classic De Luxe include floor insulation at a depth of 145 cm.

The complete package for the Styrofoam pools Classic + and Classic de Luxe + includes the appropriate floor insulation, and access is via Roman steps. The Roman steps or corner entry are made of a glass-fibre reinforced plastic and lead you directly and comfortably into the pool.

The Classic Top and Classic de Luxe Top products in the complete set have floor insulation and a corner entry on the left or right side.
The Styrofoam pool complete set of the noble Highlight model comes with floor insulation, Roman steps or corner entry and granite poolside stones at a depth of 145 cm.

The Styrofoam pool complete sets offered can be selected according to your individual wishes, such as length, width and height, thickness of the inner liner, type of entrance. The smallest available size is available with the length, width and height 600 cm x 300 cm x 145 cm and the largest size with 900 cm x 500 cm x 150 cm.

Included in every Steinbach Styrofoam pool complete set:

  • Styrofoam® stones in different dimensions, either 100 cm x 25 cm x 25 cm (length, width and height) or the Styrofoam® stones Big Stone with the dimensions 125 cm x 25 cm x 50 cm (length, width and height)
  • A high-frequency welded inner foil in the thicknesses of 0.8 mm or 1.0 mm, which is winter and tear resistant and thus guarantees a long service life
  • An aluminium suspension profile. With this, the robust pool liner is fixed in place.
  • For complete sets with floor insulation (this applies to the Classic, Classic +, Classic de Luxe +, Classic Top, Classic de Luxe Top and Highlight de Luxe sets), the floor insulation is available with clamp-fit panels in the thicknesses P 40 or P 80.
  • Self-standing special fleece
  • For easy entry: High-quality stainless steel ladders or, depending on the equipment, corner steps on the left/right or Roman steps
  • Filter system perfectly matched to your pool size
  • Quartz filter sand. Quartz sand is the filter medium with which the sand filter system is filled for the daily cleaning of the pool water. Original Filter Balls from Steinbach, which have a high dirt-holding capacity, are a cost-effective alternative. 700 grams of Filter Balls are equivalent to 25 kilograms of quartz sand.
  • 1 or 2 wide-neck built-in skimmers as well as 2, 4 or 6 inlet nozzles: Skimmers and inlet nozzles ensure daily water circulation. The skimmer is a surface suction device that sucks in dirty water by means of a pump, cleans it through a filter screen and pumps the filtered bathing water back into the pool through the inlet nozzles.

The deluxe equipment of the Styrofoam pool complete sets also have:

  • pool edge bricks made of granite
  • an installation kit for a counter-current system. A counter-current system offers the possibility to swim against a resistance created with jets.
